Many of our students are children, and their safety and wellbeing come first. This policy sets out how we safeguard the children we teach, in their homes and online.
1. Our commitment
We are committed to protecting the welfare of every child we teach and to creating a safe, respectful learning environment. All tutors are expected to understand and follow this policy.
2. Tutor conduct
- Tutors treat every student with respect and maintain appropriate, professional boundaries at all times.
- Lessons for children take place in an open area of the home, not behind a locked door.
- Tutors must never be alone with a child in circumstances that cannot be observed, and should avoid inappropriate physical contact and private one-to-one contact outside lessons.
3. Parent or guardian presence
For in-home lessons with a child, we ask that a parent, guardian or responsible adult is present in the home for the duration of the lesson. For online lessons with a child, a parent or guardian should be nearby and aware the lesson is taking place.
4. Vetting of tutors
We take reasonable steps to check the suitability of tutors before they teach, including verifying identity, qualifications and references, and we set clear expectations about safeguarding conduct.
5. Online safety
Online lessons are conducted on agreed platforms and are intended to be open to parental oversight. Recording of lessons, where it happens, is only with the knowledge and consent of the parent or guardian.
6. Raising a concern
If you have any concern about a child's safety or a tutor's conduct, please tell us immediately using the contact details below. We take every concern seriously, will respond promptly and confidentially, and will involve the relevant authorities where a child may be at risk.
7. Photos and media
We only use images or recordings of children in line with our Photo & Media Consent, which requires the explicit opt-in of a parent or guardian.
